Kacie Erin Rumford Memorial Scholarship
Kacie Erin Rumford graduated from Kennett High School in 2007. Kacie attended Penn State University and also Delaware County Community College amassing enough college credits towards a 2-year degree. Kacie also attended De Anza College for 1 summer near San Francisco. Kacie had a love of writing and poetry.
On March 12th, 2013 Kacie died from a Heroin overdose, but had always wanted to change the world, to make it a better place for all of us. Her thought was that “One Person in life can make a difference”.
Kacie enjoyed the many friendships she made while at Kennett High School and her love and vision will continue through this Scholarship and www.kaciescause.com.
Purpose: This scholarship will be made available to graduating seniors of Kennett High Schools “Students Against Destructive Decisions” (SADD). One winner will be chosen yearly for this Scholarship from this group.
Qualifications: Students will be required to complete an Essay on the question below, and will also need to be actively involved in SADD related Projects throughout the current school year. The SADD Advisor will provide their input to the Scholarship Selection Committee.
Essay Question to be completed: What changes to our existing Heroin Laws, both locally and Nationally, would provide the greatest assistance in the recovery process for users of this drug? Secondly, identify and describe how the International Drug Cartels are transporting Heroin into the United States and into the Kennett Square area, and your ideas on ways to curtail transportation of illicit drugs into our community.
Distribution: The Individual who is chosen may utilize this Scholarship for Tuition to a 2 or 4-year college degree to an accredited University or Community College. This Scholarship will be made payable to the University/College and the student.
